I had a sleep in this morning, as I stayed up too late on my computer and there was no breakfast to be had, as the reception desk was ferme for the New Year holiday.
So I had a late start and intended to catch the train to Vieux Lyon and find somewhere to have a simple citron crepe at a street stall.
I walked up the the Gorge de Loup metro station, only to find that my monthly ticket was now expired, so I decided to take this opportunity to walk the 3km or so to Vieux Lyon, via St-Just and Fourvier, now that I knew how to get there since my walk yesterday. So I set off, enjoying a good brisk walk uphill.
When I got to Vieux Lyon, none of the crepe sellers or cafes I knew of were open, so I started to walk towards Place Bellecour, and found a cafe that was open in Avenue Adolphe Max, near St-Jean Cathedral ....
What I really wanted to do this afternoon, was to have a last llok at the Saone and Rhone Rivers and to walk over the Passerelle St-Georges pedestrian bridge over the Saone, as I had recently read that the pilons are shaped like the spindles used by the silk weavers... I hadn't noticed this before .....
Looking south to the bridge ....
.... here is Cathedrale Saint-Georges ....
I am nor sure of the significance of this bird .....
I love the pastel-coloured apartments lining the Vieux Lyon west side of the river .....
The newer apartments on the east side are more subdued in colour - very Parisian!!
A nativity made from simple pottery figures - so effective ....
The extra litter in the streets included firecrackers, from last night's festivities ....
..... this is incomplete ... posted too soon! Please look again in a few day's time!
