After a not so small petit dejeuner - see selection available, I am getting to quite like not having to cook or make my own breakfast - very spoilt!!
We set off to explore the area to the north of our hotel below...
We walked along the La Saone, very cold and snowing all morning
Someone made a large snowman on the river bank - see bottom right!
Too snowy for bike-riding!
We crossed the river and caught the #40 bus to Neuville where Cathy and I went yesterday with Fabienne to visit a student.
The scenery along the way was gorgeous - the long island in the Saone with its quaint houses covered in snow,......
and the large houses on the right hand side road included these ...............
..... a grand International School with massive grounds and ancient-looking trees. you can aee it through the wrought iron gates......
There were fresh legumes, fruit, pains, fromage, poulet, patisserie etc.
We reastrained ourseleves and only bought some fresh salmon 5 Euro per piece for dinner and 1kg home made gnocci for another meal. I could have bought so much if we had a decent kitchen to cook in!
An interesting selection of meats ..........
...............a handy way to keep your apples chilled - an outdoor cool room!
We came to the end as the stall holders were packing up, so we crossed the road and went to explore the village of Neuville - so gorgeous! Here are some street scenes........
Snow-laden branches - see the red christmas light bulbs too....
along narrow, windy streets, stone walls and wrougt iron gates .............
...............clinging to the walls of this pretty house was a deciduous vine coverd in tiny red berries.........
There are christmas decorations in the streets and toys in the shops..........
and headed straight for the Boulanger Patissier for lunch .......
.............. where we had a delicious lunch for 5 Euro - special offer was a huge bagette filled with poulet and salad, a canette ( small can of drink) plus a pastry - I has a very indulgent chocolat eclaire!!
Cathy really enjoyed her citron meringue!!
This street had signs which displayed the air temperature as 1and 2 degrees celcius ----- at the SAME time!!
The view of the pastel-coloured buildings across the river Saone, taken from the bus on the way back to Lyon city centre........
The beautiful .................
Scenes inside Saint Nizier's church, and outside, signs like this are appearing all over the city in preparation for the Merci Marie festival starting on December the 8th.....
Some cute Christmas santas i found at a shop selling Danish and ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, things,,,,,
By late afternoon the sun was shining weakly as we returend to our hotel below at the Park Lane Apratments, 43 rue du Sergent Michel Berthet, 69009 Lyon-Vaise .....
........... the end of another great day out in Lyon!!
There is no such thing as a small breakfast in France, Mrs Anderson! Hope you're enjoying your holiday :)
